Newmanstown, PA - It's been called "the Knoxville Nationals of Micro-Sprint Racing" due to its history of luring a tremendous number of racecars to the annual event at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, Pa. It's almost time to work that magic again and this year, there's a new partner to spice things up...
The Mark Millwright & Rigging Labor Day Shootout will take place on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st, and this year's version will see a total of seven divisions rock the banked oval during the lucrative weekend of Micro-Sprint competition.
On Saturday the 31st, qualifying heats, last-chance qualifier mains, and 30-lap feature races will be contested for the Winged 600cc, Sportsman, and 250cc Four-Stroke Micros. In addition, there will be Quarter Midget exhibition races on Saturday.
Sunday's menu will consist of 270cc, 125cc, and Wingless 600cc action, with a format similar to Saturday's program.
All of the Micro-Sprint divisions will compete in a dual heat race/ passing points qualifying format and the 270cc, Winged and Wingless 600cc Classes will see a winner's payout of $1,000 (based on at least 45 race day entries in each of those classes).
There is no pre-registration for this year's Shootout; the entry fee is $60 per class, payable when signing in on Saturday and/or Sunday. Pit Passes will cost $30, and the passes will be good for both days of the event.
The time schedule will be the same for both days; gates open at 3 p.m. The pill draw ends at 4:30 and there will be a mandatory driver's meeting at 4:45 each day. Warm-ups will begin at 5:00, and the first heat race goes green at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Mark Millwright & Rigging of Emigsville, Pa. took on the sponsorship of the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway's point funds this season. Now Mark Painter, the company's owner and President, is putting his business's name on one of Lanco's biggest and most lucrative events of the season - the Labor Day Shootout. The two-day festival of wheel-to-wheel adventure that always has a "one big party" atmosphere has drawn 200 - give or take a few cars - Micro-Sprints to the Clyde Martin facility on previous Shootout weekends. The huge car counts create some intense racing in the qualifying events, and the 30-lap A-Mains are always full of close competition and surprises. Mark Millwright & Rigging, industrial contracting specialists, builds its business "one satisfied customer at a time", and there are sure to be plenty of satisfied customers at the conclusion of a wildly exciting Shootout weekend of motorized mayhem on the Clyde Martin clay.
The 2012 Labor Day Shootout featured some outstanding racing, with $1,000 victories going to Tyler Walton (winged 600cc), Richie Hartman (270cc), and Tim Buckwalter (wingless 600cc). Hartman doubled his pleasure on the second night when he also picked up the 125cc triumph. The other winners were Chip Geib (250cc Four-Stroke) and Jason Swavely (Sportsman). Geib's win was his second straight in the Labor Day classic's Four-Stroke A-Main.
