When the 55th season of action packed Micro-Sprint racing kicks off this Saturday at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, drivers competing on the high banked oval will have some extra incentive to keep their right foot planted firmly on the car's floorboard.
The speedway reached agreement with Weld Racing to continue the successful contingency awards program that began in 2011, meaning its teams will once again be eligible for the 'Weld Racing Fast Lap of the Feature' prize when the five weekly divisions take part in the first event on April 14.
Weld Racing will provide a $50 gift certificate to the driver who turns the quickest lap during a selected feature race each Saturday night during the 2012 racing season. The Lanco club will rotate the prize among its five classes of Micro-Sprints, with the Sportsman Class having first crack at the Weld Racing Fast Lap of the Feature at the season opener.
In addition, Weld Racing will present $125 gift certificates to the 2012 point champion in each of the five weekly divisions when Lanco salutes its top drivers at the annual awards banquet in November.
Weld Racing of Kansas City, Missouri has long been the leader in racing wheel technology, with a lengthy list of products for racers in virtually every segment of the motorsports industry. Their marketing partnership with the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway is valued greatly by officials of the Lanco Micro-Sprint club.
Last Saturday's practice session and rookie orientation left all attendees with a feeling of tremendous anticipation for this week's season opener. A total of 96 cars recorded laps on the finely manicured speedway during the practice sessions, with no less than 16 of those cars and drivers being first-time members of the club - and therefore eligible to compete for this year's track championship in the 600cc; 270cc Two-Stroke; 125cc; Sportsman; and 270cc Four-Stroke divisions.
Looking back at the car inspections that were held on March 31 & April 1, an even larger number of competitors put their mounts through the technical inspection that precedes the season opener. Inspection weekend produced 34 of the 600's; 35 of the 270cc Two-Strokes; 27 of the 125cc Micros; 23 Sportsman; and 16 of the 270cc Four-Strokes for a grand total of 135 cars!
Lanco officials stress that, for this Saturday's opener, only club member's cars that have passed tech inspection will be eligible to compete. There will be no new inspections or re-inspections until the second race on April 21.
Coming up on Saturday, April 28 is Fan Appreciation Night. As a reward to the solid fan base who make the Clyde their Saturday night home during the racing season, and as a way to entice new and casual fans to the best Micro-Sprint facility in the northeast, Lanco will offer FREE spectator admission on April 28. That's correct; there will be no charge to watch some of the best side-by-side, clay spewing, ground pounding action in the country!
Racers will also benefit from some recent off-season decisions made by officials of Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway.
Drivers competing in all five weekly classes (600cc, 270cc, 125cc, Sportsman, and 270cc Four-Stroke Micro-Sprints) are guaranteed $300 to win their respective 25-lap features in 2012, provided there are at least 24 cars entered (in the class) for that event.
The complete payout schedule, which was offered in the past only if a class had 30 or more cars entered, is posted on the track's website at www.lancomicrosprint.com. The purse structure includes a $40 payday to take the green in a main event.
There will be no increase in the cost of pit passes or car entry fees.
The payout will go even higher on nights when the event has a sponsor and the car count (per class) exceeds 30.
For this Saturday's season opener, gates will open at 3:30 with warm-ups at 5 p.m. The first qualifying heat race of 2012 goes green at 6:00, with last-chance consolations and 25-lap features following for all five classes of Micro-Sprints.
Adult General Admission is just $8.00, with discounts for Senior Citizens and Students. Youth between the ages of six and twelve are only $2.00, while children under the age of six are free. Parking is always free at the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway.
The first race of the year is always special. With new faces, a larger payout, and all the action produced by the Clyde, the inaugural event of 2012 is even more enticing...you've just gotta come out and LIVE the excitement that is Lanco!
