While this year's event may be called Lanco's Labor Day Shootout presented by Shred Racing Products, the annual two-day Micro-Sprint classic at the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway will receive sponsorship support from several resources.
Saturday, September 3rd and Sunday, September 4th are the dates on which six classes of mighty Micros will compete in two rounds of qualifying heats (utilizing a passing points system), last chance consolations/B-Mains, and 30-lap A-Mains. Those six classes include the winged 600cc, 270cc, 125cc, Sportsman, and 250cc Four-Stroke Micro-Sprints, and, new for this year...a complete show for Wingless 600cc Micros.
The winged 600cc and 270cc A-Mains will each pay $1,000 to the winner(s), while the victorious driver in the main event for the Wingless 600's will pocket $800 - or possibly even a whopping $1,300...
Hyper Racing ($300) and Mike Pjatikin ($500) are teaming up to offer the $800 payday to the Wingless winner, and Pjatikin has come up with a tempting twist...a "front row challenge." If the polesitter gives up his/her starting position and takes the green from the back of the pack, then goes on to win the 30-lapper, the first place payoff will increase another $500, courtesy of Pjatikin. Should the polesitter decline the challenge, then the driver slated to start second will have the opportunity to go for the bonus.
Saturday, September 3rd will be highlighted by a complete show for the winged 600cc competitors, along with qualifying events for the 270cc, 125cc, Sportsman, and 250cc Four-Strokes. Gates will open at 2 p.m., with warm-ups at 4:30 and the first heat race going green at 6:00. The pill draw, which will determine the line ups for the first round of heat races for each class, ends at 4 p.m.
Sunday, September 4th, features the highly anticipated and requested Wingless 600's in dual heat races, a last chance B-Main, and the big 30-lap A-Main that will be highlighted by the Front Row Challenge. Also on Sunday's menu is a B-Main for the 270cc Micros, and the A-Mains for the 270's, 125cc, Sportsman, and 250cc Four-Strokes. Gates will open at 3:00, and the Wingless 600 pill draw ends at 5 p.m. Racing action will follow the warm-up sessions that begin at 5:30.
Several special cash and contingency awards will be distributed by Shred Racing Products and Shred Racing Photos during the Labor Day Shootout. Details on those special awards will be released as soon as they are finalized.
The early entry fee for competitors is $50, and the deadline for early entries is August 27. Beginning August 28th, the entry fee increases to $80, and entries will be accepted right up until race time on September 3rd (September 4th for Wingless 600's). NOTE: this is the cost to enter each class.
Pit passes will cost $30 (good for both days). There is no discount for a one-day pit pass.
Two-day general admission tickets for adults are just $16.00, and a one-day ticket is $10.00. General admission cost for Senior Citizens and Students is $6.00 per day, while Youth between the ages of six and twelve are $2.00 per day. Children under six are admitted free, and parking is always free at the Clyde!
For the past several years, Lanco's Labor Day Shootout has attracted almost 200 Micro-Sprints among the six classes involved in the event (that figure was topped a few years ago). In 2011, with the addition of the "toss 'em sideways, back it into the banking," Wingless 600's, the Shootout is expected to once again draw an incredible field - both in quantity and quality.
